Background Information
 | I am a consultant ENT surgeon with a special interest in Rhinology. My
postgraduate ENT training was in the North
East of England based in Newcastle. During
my training I was awarded a Wellcome Trust
Fellowship to undertake a full time research
project at the University of Newcastle. This
led to my MD in 2002.
I was the first UK trainee to be selected as
Professor P-J Wormald’s Rhinology Fellow in
2001 and spent twelve months in Adelaide
under his tutelage. I developed specialist
skills in anterior skull base surgery,
advanced endoscopic sinus surgery (nasal
polyps and chronic sinusitis) and minimally
invasive lacrimal surgery (surgery for
watery eyes).
In October 2003, I was appointed jointly to
the County Hospital, Winchester and
Southampton University Hospitals. I have an
honorary contract with Salisbury Hospital
and also provide an ENT service at Andover
War Memorial Hospital.
I see and operate on general ENT problems
and have developed a specialised Rhinology
service in particular frontal sinus disease
and image guidance surgery, snoring,
catarrh, disorders of the sense of smell and
facial pain.
I have an ongoing interest in research
including allergic fungal sinusitis,
allergy, rhinitis, nasal polyposis and I am
the Research Director for the Wessex ENT
higher surgical training programme. I tutor
on a number of practical Endoscopic Sinus
Surgery (FESS) courses and Intercollegiate
FRCS Exam courses. In 2006, I established
the First Advanced Endoscopic Sinus Surgery
Course in the UK. |
